Human Superoxide Dismutase 3
Bioboost developed highly potent recombinant human superoxide dismutase 3 (rhSOD3) via our sustainable yeast fermentation. Our rhSOD3 is highly active and is vegan, and animal-free. To put it in perspective, popular melon extract SOD in the market today are considered to have high activity, which on average contains 100 units of activity per mg of enzyme. Compared to that, our rhSOD exhibits over 20,000 units activity per mg of enzyme.
SKIN & FREE RADICALS
Skin is one of the most important and complex defense layer of our body, envelops the entire surface to protect us from physical and chemical damages, is exposed to environmental insults such as pathogens, injuries and ultraviolet (UV) radiation daily. Among these insults, a class of notorious molecules called free radicals are an important factor involved in aging and can only be destroyed by the antioxidant activity of enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and some supporting enzymes.
There are several members within the human SOD family of enzymes. There are various forms of SOD that incorporate different covalently bound substances (Mn, Zn, Cu, Fe). SOD3 is bound to Cu and Zn, and is the only extra-cellular SOD enzyme. This enzyme helps to reduce the damage caused by UV and by neutralizing the free r radicals. Therefore, protecting the skin from various further damages caused by free radicals, such as loss of collagen.
OUR SOD ACTIVITY
Bioboost's rhSOD3 is highly active. Our test shows that our rhSOD3 about 20x better than the previously recorded, yeast derived SOD3 and is about 100-400x better than the ones made from bacteria. Compared to the popular cantaloupe derived SOD, which contains on average 100 units of activity per mg, our SOD3 contains over 20,000 units of activity per mg. And it is vegan, and animal-free!
SOD market demand
The global demand for SOD is huge! The global market was US $3.7 Billion in 2021 and is growing at a fast pace. The current biggest market is in North America but the demand in China is growing at an astonishing speed of 13.6% CAGR. In 2027, the estimated demand for SOD will exceed US $5.5 Billion.
